When Acne becomes a nightmare

I would like to dedicate this Hub to one brave person. He took off his clothes for me and showed me and finally let me to take pictures of his acne. I was mad enough to ask him and gave him all the reasons Why he should take his clothes off for me.

This man is 34 years old. When he was about 13-14 years old the first acne appeared. He did not pay attention to it as every doctor he went to told him is just a teenage acne. When he got older and started to take an interest in girls, he kept sitting at home. He had depression and everytime he had to go out it was not easy for him. When he was arround 18 years old He found a great dermatologist. She diagnosed him Acne vulgaris conglobata. His face and back was full of big spots full of pus. He also had a lot of cysts on his back which had to be removed by surgery.

Attending  school was difficult for him as his classmates pointed at him and made fun of his acne all of the time. Words like-„Woow, you are growing again“ or a „stoney path“ were said on regular basis.

Thanks to his classmates he lost his confidence and he started hiding away from the world.

He had a lot of different treatments including a pill called Roaccutane. Those pills just make you sick and you have to come for a blood tests every two weeks.

After this treatment he felt better and all the spots were going down., even though  this treatment helped him a lot the scars from his acne remains. As you can see on this picture of his back, the scars cover most of his back.

This is what I call a disaster stage!

When you have scars on your  back, it is not as bad as on your face. He also suffered from acne on the T-zone of his face. The  T-zone includes the space around the nose and eyebrows. His cheeks , forehead and neck are also damaged by acne.

Recently he had  surgery on his eybrow.  He had a big juicy spot which had  grown into cyst. It had to be removed by operation in local anestehetic. It took 45 minutes and left him with 4 stiches.

He experienced many of the treatments known. He still cannot take lazer treatment as his skin is not dry enough to be heal well. Dermatologist also advised him that the lazer might not be able to remove all the scars. Definatelly it would be a long term process.

It is very hard to think of what makes such stage of his acne. He is convinced that it has to do something with digestive systém or thyroid gland. All his blood tests are ok. There was nothing major found in his medical reports and treatments.

So it looks like this man is healthy, but non of the doctors are able to say what causes his problems. Why is the acne coming back to him all of the time. It does not have nothing to do with a lifestyle or a bad habits for sure. This has to be caused by something inside and the acne is just a result of it.

I hope there are dermatologists or doctors on hubpages which might give us any guidelines What we should try to do. I would be pretty much happy If those people see this article and spare a comment. Any thoughts will be highly appreciated.

Thanks-Yours the one and only Lizzy Doctor Boo.

Well, Lizzy, your friend was brave to do this. Men always seem to have the worst form of the disease.

I'm not surprised that the Accutane helped his back. It definitely helped mine, and I never broke out there again. But the face is definitely a different story.

Although I can't help further, I do appreciate your writing your series of articles about acne, and for caring. Keep going!

a little baking soda mask......it detoxifies and brings everything up and to a head .. it is very drying .. after the mask is taken off a little apple cider vinegar to get it all off and then you have to put on a good moisturizer..

hey you never know .. and it is all natural . . .

Dear Shari, thank you for the tips. I would say those tips are great for acne, but are they good with a heavy form? Even some drugs are not great with solving those. When someone has a heavy form of acne, it always have something to do with hormones. So I believe the person has to be cleaned from inside as the acne is just a result of inner reactions of your body.

Lizzy Doctor Boo, thanks for this Hub. It's yet another form of acne that I've never heard of. That's horrible. And teenage girls are always complaining about their one little pimple on their perfect faces... More people should know about the more severe forms of acne. Thanks for educating me.
