Hello Dolly- Neverending musical of all times!
66
Many people knows me as a person who loves musicals. So everyone would understand why I have the passion to write about them. 6.2.2010 I went to the theatre again. I was so lucky to get a ticket for a new premiere of the Hello Dolly musical.
Where
The premiere was in my theatre, I say in mine as this theatre is my favorite theatre in the Czech Republic. The theatre is called Městské divadlo Brno / Town Theatre Brno/, situated in a second biggest town of the Czech Republic called Brno.
About the theatre.
I love this theatre. It is close to the center of town. It is hard to get tickets as this theatre has such a great reputation. You have to be very fast to catch the tickets as they have sold out every night from the year 1995.
There are 2 buildings. An old one which was under reconstruction in 1995. There is the Drama scene/ stage/ situated for 340 people.
Then in 2004 the new Music hall was opened with the premiere of the musical Hair it holds up to for 680 people.
The art ensemble is very creative and full of famous actors. Every year the theatre produces 10 plays. Everytime they are well done glamerous productions .
You can find more information about the theatre here: Městské divadlo Brno

The story of Hello Dolly
Hello Dolly is the story of recently widowed Match maker Dolly Levi who has been hired to make a match for “Half Millionaire” Horace Vandergelder.
Dolly, however, has other plans. She believes Horace and his half million dollar fortune would make a perfect mate for her.
Dolly travels to Yonkers in New York to arrange the marriage of Vandergelder but because she wants to get her hands on him and his money she begins to plant the some seeds of doubt in to his head about the young and recently widowed Hat shop owner called Irene Molloy that dolly has picked out for him.
When Mr Vandergelder leaves his store to go and meet Dolly in the Hat store two of his employees, Cornelius and Barnaby decide to use his absence to their advantage and decide to go out and explore the big city for their very first time.
The poor guys don’t get very far though because they soon spot Vandergelder heading towards them on the street.
Fearing that he sees them too they dive into the nearest shop hoping that he will pass by.
The shop that they run into though turns out to be Mrs Molloy’s Hat shop just where their boss is heading into to meet his match.
The ladies in the shop realising the danger to the boys try to hide them before Vandergelder comes in
Horace decides his soon-to-be-bride is hiding a roomful of strange men. Before leaving the hat shop, he announces his intention to marry the wealthy, but unattractive Ernestina Money.
Dolly encourages the two wayward Vandergelder employees to take Irene and Minnie Fay to dinner at the fashionable Harmonia Gardens.
After all the happy end comes!
My final thoughts
The mucical was amazing. Full of colours and great costumes. The scenery was great and perfectly fitted into each part. The Choreography was great. Everyone Who is visiting Brno this year has to see i this Musical. It is a must!
The only thing I did not like to see were people who came to see the musical.
When you think that it was a premier, we all should be corectly dressed. Men were in suits that was fine. I was so embarrased of the ladies though. They came to see a premier play in jeans, jumpers or a black trousers and black tops. It certainly wasn’t afuneral. Therefore I did not understand the fashion sense that i saw at the theatre last night.
For me to see this play was an event. Not just an ordinary working day, but a special event.
I completally fell in love with this musical and I wish to dedicated to all who ever played in or have seen HELLO DOLLY.

Thanks Lizzy - It is definitely a once heard never forgotten musical. Both Armstrong and Streisland spring to mind. I don't know that I have a favourite musical but that is definitely a good one.
I have seen Hello Dolly with Barbara Streisland in it on T.V. but two of my favorite musicals are The Secret Garden, songs wrote by Lucy Simon and story by Marsha Mason and The King and I with Deborah Kerr and Yul Brenner. I also like Brigadoon with Gene Kelly and Cyd Charisee in it. They are my all time favorites, I also like Funny Girl and Funny Lady with Barbara Streisland in it.
I really need to see this. It's such a classic I'm surprise I haven't seen it yet. Some of my favorites are The Sound of Music, the Phantom of the Opera, and basically anything Disney. Both of those I have seen live on stage. The Phantom of the Opera I actually saw on Broadway. (It was nothing short of phenomenal.)
I'm trying to educated myself a little more about musicals since I'm actually writing one right now! (Big project!) I have about 5-6 songs that are in the early stages of development. I'm try to write both the music and the lyrics, so it is challenging, but fun at the same time. I can't wait to get my first song recorded. I'm planning on doing that in a month or so...professionally in Nashville.
Great blog, thank you!
You need to write more musical blogs!!! Get to work!! ah ha ha ha! I want to read about them.
Sounds good.
