Bromidrophobia –Fear of body odor

By LizzyBoo

Every living creature on earth has its own body odor. Like it or not, even  humans  have it! For some people with Bromidrophobia is very difficult to live their life. Let’s talk about this mattter more.

People who suffer from Bromidrophobia fear anyone who has  body odor. These people tried to avoid a contact with others as much as possible and always carry many things in their bags as prevention against  body odor.

People with phobias such as fear of public places, Buses, train, rest rooms. Social places are their nightmare for sure. But that is just one side of it.

People with Bromidrophobia also don’t like their body odor. Lets talk more about the symptoms .

1/ No step without deodorants.

Normally we all use them. We can see adverts everywhere shouting at us to use them. That is normal we use them to prevent our body odor. People with Bromidrophobia will carry more than one deodorant in their bags. For them body odor is something that should be removed immadiately. Even if they use a deodorant they do not hesitate to use it all over again after few minutes or a certain time.

2/ No public places

These people will not go to a Gym. They know if they do any excercises in public they start sweating. They rather look for a places where they can relax and have a full control of the odor around them.

Some of them might even carry a bag with extra clothes in case they need it. As people with bromidrophobia thinks that every scent of body odor is bad and dirty they become a slaves to themselves. It is impossible to remove every odor so they become frustrated and unhappy as no matter what they do to prevent body odur they still think that they smell.

Bromidrophobia might be connected or exchanged with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder /OCD/.

OCD – Some people are obsessed about something. For example: A man is obsessed that he will be killed. To relieve such thought he will go and have a bath 3 times as a prevention to start believing that  it wont happen.

OCD has nothing to do with Bromidrophobia.

A man with OCD does his dailly routine things to prevent his mind from obsessive thinking. It can be taking 3 baths a day or another ritual.

A person with Bromidrophobia  has a fear. Fear which he tries to remove mechanicly by washing.

People with such problems should visit a therapist who can deal with their illness and help them. No human needs to suffer when there is help available.

Fascinating. Something I never thought about before. I do recollect reading somewhere about someone killing themselves with over use of spray deodorants once.

Personally I use Tawas as a deodorant. Great, cheap and effective. I don't like anti-perspirants.

Boo Boo. . . when I was pregnant I too had this. . there were certain places I just could not go to .. because I would just gag to death . . thank goodness once I gave birth it subsided.. . but one thing I still cant take is someone who overuses perfume. . if i wanted to smell a garden it is so much more pleasurable to smell the real thing. . oh and one more thing. . the best deodorant to use .. that has no scent (well at least a minute or 2 after) is a little dab of vinegar. . .ha who would have ever thought that:)

Interesting Hub as always. . thumbs up gf!

There's a word for a fear of EVERYTHING. Good grief! I've never heard of this one though. Interesting.
